The fact is that the Ars Magica 4th Edition rulebook has had a long life and, with the game's 5th edition coming next year, it was decided that there was no better way to share the game with folks all over the world than by giving it away. Ars Magica may be one of the most-translated RPGs in the world the Russian edition is just lovely, by the way , and it's our hope that this sort of easy distribution will help not just to carry the game to new players but help existing players expand and strengthen their gaming groups.

Ars Magica is the sort of game where some serious page-flipping goes on, and this PDF will help with that, too. There are also a great many ideas which can be gleaned from Ars Magica for use in all manner of fantasy role-playing games. The game really speaks for itself, so we're delighted to hear that so many of you are willing to give it a listen.

Finally, regarding issues of compatibility: All the problems that I've heard about with the file have been attributed to outdated versions of Acrobat.
